Artist Date

In addition to the Kelly Rae Roberts Flying Lessons e-course, I am reading The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. Both of these great resources were recommended to me by my friend Teresa. I am grateful to her for these suggestions! In The Artists Way, Julia suggests writing 3 pages every day to get cluttered stuff out of your head to make room for creativity, and going on weekly artist dates to soak up that creativity that's all around. The writing is going okay but I haven't managed to do it everyday. The artist date though, I think I could manage weekly!  After work last night I went to JoAnn and just walked the aisles. I looked at papers, embellishments, stickers, idea books, stamps, just about everything. I love being able to go in there when I don't have to rush or I don't have a specific list or agenda.  With all the new blogs I've visited it's fun to see all the beautiful things people make. Then going up and down all those aisles, it makes me want to take time to create. I had fun and managed to spend some fun money. I think I'd like to commit to this weekly artist date thing! I am continually amazed at the talent of so many "Flyers". The energy, tips, and resources shared by all is a great way to learn and share and grow (or should I say soar)! Off to learn how to add "grab a button".  Watch as I progress and "show and tell" what I am learning. Enjoying the flight so far-

  1. Oh the morning pages... I did those a few years back, 45 minutes of non-stop writing about the chatter that was happening in my head. Loved it. But one day I decided to quit, it was taking too much time. But I know that I need to get back to it. It made a huge difference in how my days went not having all that mental chattering going on all day.

I'm happy to hear you are enjoying the Flying Lessons class. I'm enjoying it too. :)

    1. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment Suzanne, I appreciate it. I do feel like my days seem better when I write those 3 pages. It IS hard to find the time! I have been doing it first thing in the morning while drinking my coffee, I don't turn on my tv or computer until I'm done (most days). It's a discipline- like anything else worth making the time for.

  2. Hi Debbie-WOW you are doing 2 powerful things at one time. I can't wait to see the magical stuff you do with what you learn. I have gained powerful insights from KRR class + the Artist's Way. I still write in my journal at least 4-5 days out of the week. It has proven to be a very important part of my life. Getting rid of the mindless chatter. I seem to solve more issues thru writing about it. Keep up the good work.

  4. I loved The Artist's Way too, Debbie. I know I do so much better when I take that 20 minutes to write. It makes me think of clearing the Cache on the computer...it makes it run faster once you dump those excess files! I think it works on our brains the same way! :) There is a meet up group that meets once a week here in Austin to do the Artist's Way...another one of those things I keep thinking I "should" do! It's hard to get it all in, isn't it?
